A subscription coffee storefront that reads like a magazine and checks out like a dream — rebuilt headless for speed and recurring revenue.
Visit the live site meridian-coffee-bco.pages.devMeridian is an independent roastery with a serious product and a website that didn't do it justice. They'd outgrown an off-the-shelf Shopify theme — slow to load, awkward to update, and a subscription flow bolted on as an afterthought.
They wanted three things: to feel as considered as their coffee, to load instantly on a phone in a café queue, and to turn one-off buyers into subscribers.
We went headless. Astro renders a static, editorial storefront — the roastery story scrolls like a print feature — while Shopify quietly handles the catalogue and orders behind the scenes and Stripe runs the recurring billing.
Interactivity lives only where it earns its place: the cart and the subscription picker are small islands of JavaScript on an otherwise zero-JS page. Staff update everything from a familiar dashboard; customers never wait.
Median loads land under 600ms and Lighthouse settles at 98, with the subscription flow reduced to a few taps — the kind of friction-free path that turns first-time browsers into regulars.
